First Day on the Ground in Istanbul
Since traveling takes up the better part of a day, we only had the evening to spend exploring Istanbul. A couple of us wandered towards the tourist area and stopped at an outdoor restaurant to have dinner. The waiter was incredibly nice and gave us a discount and sat and talked with us a bit.
After dinner, Cammie and I walked around the shops and found an awesome assortment of Turkish goods. There were beautiful plates, lanterns, leather shoes, and all kinds of other trinkets. I will have to go shopping for souvenirs later in the week!
We also met back up with a large group from the program and stopped at a local place for shisha. We had mint shisha and apple tea. Turkish apple tea is incredible and it was nice to end our first day here together hanging out on a stoop taking in the sights of this new city.
So far, I am loving Istanbul. Tomorrow starts the company visits…stay tuned.
